From Mold to Finish
Candle Hut Barbados candles are made in small batches through a hands-on process that preserves the detail of shells, coral, starfish, and other ocean forms.
From preparing the mold to the final inspection, every Candle Hut Barbados candle is individually handled. The sculptural form remains consistent, while the handmade color placement and finishing give each piece its own character.
Step 01
Each design begins with a real shell, coral, starfish, or other ocean form. A reusable mold captures its shape, ridges, curves, and natural texture so those details can be recreated in wax.
Step 02
The wax is carefully prepared with powder pigments to create each candle's color, then poured into the mold by hand. The filled mold is left to set until the wax can hold the ocean form's detailed shape and texture.
Every piece is made without added fragrance.
Step 03
After the wax has set, the candle is carefully released from its mold. Excess wax is removed, and the piece is trimmed, smoothed, detailed, and repaired by hand where needed.
Step 04
Every finished candle is individually inspected for its form, finish, wick placement, and overall appearance before it is prepared for packaging.
Nothing usable is thrown away. Excess wax created during molding, trimming, and hand-finishing is collected, remelted, and returned to future batches. This zero-waste wax process keeps valuable material in production instead of sending it to the waste bin.
A Family Craft
Michael Franco learned the candle-making process from his father and continues that family craft through Candle Hut Barbados. Every batch relies on hands-on knowledge, careful timing, and close attention to the small details that bring each ocean form to life.
Small-Batch Production
Working in small batches gives Candle Hut Barbados greater control over color, finishing, material use, and final inspection. The result is a real, burnable candle with the presence of a sculptural object.
