Handmade Sculptural Candles

The Ocean,
Captured
in Candle Form

Candle Hut Barbados creates sculptural candles molded directly from real shells, coral, starfish, and other ocean forms. Every piece is hand-poured, hand-finished, and made without added fragrance using a zero-waste wax process.

Not an Ordinary Candle

Natural Detail, Recreated in Wax

Most candles are poured into jars or ordinary decorative molds. Every Candle Hut Barbados design begins with a real ocean form, allowing its ridges, grooves, curves, and natural texture to be recreated in wax.

The result is a real, burnable candle designed to be displayed, collected, gifted, and enjoyed.

Molded From Real Ocean Forms

Each reusable mold is based on a real shell, coral, starfish, sea urchin, or other ocean form.

Handmade From Pour to Finish

Every candle is hand-poured, released from its mold, carefully finished, and individually inspected.

Made Without Added Fragrance

Every piece is unscented and fragrance-free—ideal for spaces where beauty is welcome but added scent is not.

A Candle You May Never Want to Light

Yes, every Candle Hut Barbados piece is a real, burnable candle.

But most customers choose to display them.

Their realistic detail and dimensional forms make them just as fitting on a shelf, mantel, bathroom counter, guest-room table, or coastal display as they are beside a flame.

"I would never light this."

People often tell us the same thing when they first see one. And most never do.

Designed to be displayed. Made to be burned if you choose.

A Design Story Decades in the Making

Original Forms.
A Family Legacy.

In the 1970s, Michael Franco's father began creating sculptural candles from real shells, coral, starfish, and other ocean forms. He developed the original molds and later protected the designs through U.S. copyright registrations.

The craft passed from father to son. Today, Michael carries that work forward through Candle Hut Barbados.

How Each Piece Is Made

Small-Batch Craftsmanship From Mold to Finish

Every Candle Hut Barbados candle goes through a hands-on production process. A complete batch takes approximately 24 hours, and every piece is individually handled before it leaves the studio.

  1. Prepare the Wax

Paraffin wax is selected for the strength and rigidity required to preserve intricate sculptural forms. Powder pigments are added to create the candle's color.

  2. Hand-Pour the Mold

The prepared wax is carefully poured by hand into molds created from real ocean forms.

  3. Release and Finish

After the wax has set, the candle is removed from the mold. Excess wax is captured, and the piece is smoothed, detailed, and repaired by hand where needed.

  4. Inspect Every Piece

Each candle is individually reviewed for finish, form, and overall appearance before it is prepared for packaging.

The underlying form and texture remain consistent, but handmade color patterns naturally vary from one candle to the next. No two finished pieces will have precisely the same blend, placement, or balance of color.

Nothing Beautiful Goes to Waste

A Zero-Waste Wax Process

Sculptural candle making naturally produces excess wax during molding, trimming, smoothing, and hand-finishing. At Candle Hut Barbados, every usable piece is collected, remelted, and returned to production, creating a zero-waste wax process that keeps valuable material in use instead of throwing it away.

Excess Wax Is Captured

Wax removed during mold release, trimming, smoothing, and hand-finishing is carefully collected instead of discarded.

Usable Wax Is Remelted

The recovered wax is reheated and prepared to become part of the candle-making process again.

Wax Returns to Production

The remelted material is returned to future batches, keeping usable wax in the production cycle and out of the waste stream.

A Family Craft With Caribbean Roots

Michael Franco launched Candle Hut Barbados on June 6, 2019, continuing a candle-making craft first developed by his father decades earlier.

In Barbados, Michael introduced the collection to local customers, visitors, cruise passengers, and retailers. His children, Jacob and Ellie, also became part of the family business, with Jacob learning the production process and Ellie helping operate the Barbados shop.

Now Candle Hut Barbados is establishing production in Orlando, Florida and preparing to introduce the collection across the United States.

Barbados remains the heart of the brand. Florida begins its next chapter.
